Rainy season in our country can mean flooded streets, more traffic, leaking roofs, flooded houses, and electricity outages. Not a very good scenario that sometimes you will find yourself wishing it's summertime again. But rainy season usually lasts for three to four months. So instead of wishfully thinking of sunny days, read on for tips to survive the rainy days.
* Make sure your house is prepared for the rainy season. Check your gutters, roof, and floor drains if they are free of debris. Ensure that they are cleaned on a weekly basis throughout the rainy season.
* Inspect the roof for broken tiles or those that have shifted over the dry season. Repair if necessary.
* Inspect your ceilings for signs of leaking, such as mold, water rings, or discoloration. Repair if necessary.
* Check your windows and doors to make sure they close properly.
* Prepare your emergency flood gear. You should have flashlights, spare batteries, extra bottled water, and at least a 10X10 tarp.
* To protect your kids from common diseases during the rainy season, take precautionary measures. Make sure your kids bring their own umbrella and coats when they go to school. To avoid mosquito bites, let them use mosquito repellents.
* Drink lots of water and take Vitamin C. Citrus fruits are also good to boost your family's resistance against common diseases during the season.
