The Basketball Association of the Philippines was suspended indefinitely by the Philippine Olympic Committee through a unanimous vote in the General Assembly last May 25. All 37 national sports associations that attended the three-hour meeting supported Cojuangco's earlier decision to suspend BAP indefinitely.
It marks the first time in local sports history that a national sports association is suspended by the POC, the country's sports governing body.
A caretaker committee will now be created to handle the country's basketball affairs and the international and local commitments, including the staging of the Champions Cup late this month.
The caretaker committee will be composed of representatives from the Philippine Basketball Association, Philippine Basketball League, the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
A meeting among the major stakeholders in basketball will be held on May 28 to finalize the composition of the caretaker committee.
