The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has postponed the implementation of a two-peso increase in jeepney and ordinary bus fares.
The two-peso increase in minimum fares in Metro Manila and Luzon and a one-peso adjustment in the Visayas were to take effect today, May 25.
The postponement has been made to give the board enough time to decide on the motions for reconsideration filed by the Cebu-based National Council for Commuters Protection Inc. (NCCPI) and the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers of the Philippines (Fejodap).
In their motion, the NCCPI argued that there was "no reason" to raise fares at this time.
The Fejodap, through its lawyer, Vigor Mendoza, said the adjustment was "not enough" given the rise in prices of basic goods.
Felix Racadio, LTFRB officer-in-charge, said that the transport sector has to wait for another 10 days due to the motion for considerations.
