Two Filipino chess players became instant millionaires at the conclusion of the HB Global Chess Challenge at the Minneapolis Convention Center in the United States last May 22 (May 23 in Manila).
Andrew Cunanan, 27, and Karl Victor Ochoa, 15, bagged $20,000 (R1,080,000) each for winning the Under-2200 and Under-2000 sections, respectively.
Another Filipino, 22-year-old Anton Paolo del Mundo, finished with 6 points and won $7,000 in the grandmasters-laden Under-2400 section.
