Actor Bernard Palanca has a lot to fall back on if ever he decides to quit the acting profession. He can sing and he can write music. He can even go into interior decorating!
For now, however, show business takes his first priority. He has a new movie coming out. He's part of the cast of the upcoming romantic film All My Life, which co-stars Aga Muhlach and Kristine Hermosa. He portrays the guy who's all set to marry Kristine, but this doesn't push through after a dramatic turn of events.
Bernard is a homegrown ABS-CBN 2 talent who is the real-life boyfriend of the alluring Rica Peralejo. He's also a member of the ABS-CBN 2 all male group The Hunks.
Show business runs in his veins. He is a grandson of veteran actor Armando Goyena (Jose Revilla in real life). Grandmother is the late Pacquita Roces, the first Camay Girl. Their daughters have been celebrated for their beauty and glamour. Bernard's mom is Pilar Revilla, the widow of the racecar driver Bernard Palanca. Their son Bernard is a "junior"-his nickname is BJ.
BJ is now 27 years old while Rica is said to be only 23. They've been going steady for three years, but there are no marriage plans yet. He says he knows that marriage can ruin Rica's career, and that he had never asked her to stop accepting roles in adult films. "She knows that I could never get myself to watch any of her bold films," he said.
The guy is aware that he's not that big a star yet, and that his girlfriend is more famous. "I'm giving myself just about three to four more years for my showbiz career. If it doesn't take off, I'll surely get out and do something else. Maybe get into producing music albums or even into interior designing - they're two of my passions.
"Even now, I'm trying to get my band back together, though we might not use our original name Bizkit Factory. We won't go into hard rock-we'll shift to jazz and pop rock."
The band broke up when his other showbiz commitments required too much of his time. They did get to record songs for compilation and soundtrack albums, but they have yet to record their own album.
As for interior design, BJ says it's his other passion and he doesn't mind the fact that the profession is associated with gay men. "I do acknowledge that the feminine side of me gets very strongly expressed in my passion for interior designing. Even Rica knows it, and she is not worried about it."
